New Edition of the HI-MACS® Design Contest

The fifth edition of the HI-MACS® European Design Contest is under way once more. Many prestigious architects and designers have produced exceptional designs with this material. LG Hausys has always invested in promoting innovative design and supporting young talent through Europe.

The fifth edition of the contest focuses on the always stimulating field of urban furniture - public benches, street lighting, futuristic gardens, other-world telephone boxes etc. Once again, it's the time for originality, audacity, talent and of course, recognition.

The big news for this edition is the creation of 2 different categories: “student” and “professional”, opening the competition to professional designers for the very first time. Participants under the “student” category can participate through their school or on an individual basis, and must be enrolled on an architecture or design-related course during the 2010-2011 academic year and be at least attending their second year studies.

Applicants must complete a simple registration form and submit between one and ten renderings, a detailed plan containing all the technical information and a document explaining the project.

Participation is straightforward. Projects can be submitted in electronic format (CD or DVD) by post or electronic mail to designcontest@himacs.eu. Projects must be submitted by 30 April 2011.

The finalists will be chosen and revealed from May 23rd to 27th of 2011. Prototypes will be made on a 1:1 scale and exhibited at the next London Design Week in September. Promotion will be on a European scale. After the exhibition, a jury composed of well-known and specialized designers will choose the winners of the HI-MACS® contest at an Award Ceremony.

After the success of previous editions on Lamps in 2009, Catering in 2008 and Bathrooms in 2007, which enjoyed notable English participation by the Institute of Art and Design in Birmingham, HI-MACS® continues to invest in discovering and promoting new talent in the world of international design.
