Kvadrat acquires Dutch rug company Danskina

Ebeltoft, Denmark – Kvadrat, a leading European design-textile company, renowned for working with a roster of the world’s top designers, architects and artists, announces the acquisition of the Dutch rug company, Danskina B.V, in a move to strengthen the Kvadrat brand and broaden the distribution of its product line throughout international retail markets.

Anders Byriel, CEO of Kvadrat says: ‘The acquisition of Danskina offers fresh possibilities for Kvadrat in its strategy to further expand into the retail sector. Danskina’s ground-breaking designs and approach to producing contemporary high-quality rugs is equally aligned with Kvadrat’s own brand vision. We see great potential in the Danskina brand and are looking forward to developing the collection and expanding the international presence of the company’.

Today, the parties have signed a letter of intent in relation to the acquisition by Kvadrat and expect to complete the transaction by mid-June.

Danskina was founded in 1973 by Piet van Eijken and his wife Ina, in the small town of Bergeijk, in the rural south of the Netherlands. The company specializes in the design and development of exclusive made-to-order contemporary rugs, with guest textile designers like Ulf Moritz and Felix Diener, and has a customer base that includes retailers, architects and interior designers.

Piet van Eijken comments: ‘Having worked closely with Kvadrat since 1973 we have inspired each other and shared values ever since. It is a great pleasure therefore to give over the helm to my Danish friends’.

Kvadrat was established in Denmark in 1968 and now holds a leading position in the European market of design-textiles supplying renowned architects, designers and furniture manufacturers throughout the world, for use in upholstery and curtains. Kvadrat fabrics have been used in some of the world’s most famous architectural developments including The Gherkin – London, Museum of Modern Art – NYC, Walt Disney Concert Hall – Los Angeles, Reichstag – Berlin, Guggenheim Museum – Bilbao, Copenhagen Opera House – Denmark, Yves St. Laurent – Paris and the new Opera House in Oslo.
