SORRY GIOTTO Light from Catellani & Smith

MIUU by Arturo Álvarez
Fabrics that wrap bodies,
fabrics that wrap light, ready to highlight colours and joint together in
different forms.
A beautiful volume and a
pleasant and fresh texture that reminds of petals of suggestive flowers.
The designer keeps on exploring
the possibilities of weaving with different materials and recreates ancient
flavours. The fabric gets voluptuousness and delicacy.

Clerkenwell Design Week Returns for 2012
London’s
premier celebration of design is preparing for its third showcase in 2012.
After attracting record visitors over the last two years, with over 24,000
registered visitors in 2011, CDW 2012 looks to be bigger and better, cementing
itself as the UK’s leading architecture and design destination.
Taking place across Clerkenwell 22-24 May 2012 and sponsored for the second year running by Jaguar, the three-day fest brings a vibrant programme of events – spanning product launches, parties, auctions, debates, pop-ups, exhibitions, installations, open studios and workshops. The Farmiloe Building (a former lead and glass merchants warehouse) and The House of Detention (a subterranean Victorian prison) will be showcasing the latest product and furniture innovations from both home grown and international manufacturers as well as a wealth of design and architecture talent.
Clerkenwell is also home to over 60 furniture design showrooms with many staging exclusive new product launches, talks with high profile speakers, installations and VIP parties.
No CDW is complete without public installations - this year Aberrant Architecture, the UK based multi-disciplinary design studio and think tank recognised for their interactive projects, is set to be one of 2012’s highlights with a travelling theatre that aims to delight and engage the CDW community by drawing on Clerkenwell’s rich theatrical history.

Crest Contract Interiors / Crest Living
Crest would like to advise all of their clients, suppliers,
friends and contacts that following the unexpected announcement by "Few and Far" of
closing the shop in Brompton Road at the end of February, that Crest Living and Contracts will continue to trade but from
a new location.
It should be stressed that Crest Living and Crest Contracts
have absolutely no commercial connection with "Few and Far" or
Priscilla Carluccio, it is an
independent company and whilst affected by the closure in terms of
location, is in no way affected in terms of continuing to trade.
As the news was only recently made public, it has left Crest
with no alternative but to find temporary office accommodation whilst they continue to search for a new home, where they will be able to continue to promote and sell the
high quality product offering on display at the current shop.
At the same time it is their intention to develop their on line
sales through an improved web site, suitable for the high quality of products and
services which Crest aim to supply to their clients. Crest will aim to keep everyone
informed of progress with these plans.
Should any of their clients feel concerned about their orders,
warranties or deliveries please feel free to contact Crest either at the shop
prior to closing or at any time after the 1st February from their new office location
which will be announced once suitable premises have been finalised.
Crest would like to thank all of their customers for their
support and interest in their products during their most enjoyable stay in the
Brompton Road and look forward to meeting and the opportunity of supplying them again, at some time in the future.
Crest would also like to wish Priscilla and the staff at
"Few and Far" good luck with their future business.

Furniture Retail Quality Group publishes Flammability Best Practice Guide
The new guide – FIRA-FRQG F001: 2011 – has
been developed by FRQG to fulfil four major functions:
·
To
provide basic information to upholstery suppliers across the global supply
chain regarding the requirements of the UK’s Furniture and Furnishings (Fire)
(Safety) Regulations.
·
To
give a standard interpretation of the testing requirements within the
regulations to ensure that all test laboratories around the world are testing
in the same way, and hopefully reduce expensive product recalls.
·
To
give instructions to test laboratories on test report format to ensure that
they are easy to read.
·
To
give advice on the age of test reports that will be accepted.
The aim of the guide is to ensure that all
suppliers understand their obligations, and that all test laboratories test and
report in a harmonised way. The guide can be downloaded for free at http://www.fira.co.uk/document/frqg-best-practice-flammability-guide.pdf.

First school chair recognised for ergonomic excellence
The Newton chair by Orangebox is the first school chair to receive
the prestigious FIRA Ergonomics Excellence Award, in recognition of its
exceptional ergonomic design.
The FIRA
Ergonomics Excellence Award identifies genuine ergonomic excellence in furniture
products used in workplace, school and domestic environments by clearly
distinguishing those that are outstanding from other products in the
marketplace.
In order to receive the Award, safety,
user-friendliness and the comfort and well-being of the user are considered, as
well as whether the product is fit for purpose both structurally and
ergonomically.
Classrooms have
historically been ergonomically challenging environments for students.
Dimensional misfit and lack of movement puts pressure on the spine. Furniture
must therefore fit the users, support learning environments and be fit for
purpose.
The Newton has an adjustable
seat and integral footrest to help avoid dimensional mismatch, which can cause
fatigue and loss of concentration in the classroom. It also incorporates a
simple two tilt sitting position, enabling students to lean back to listen in
comfort and to tip forward for a more healthy upright reading and writing
position when working at a table. The Newton
chair is the first of a number of products the Company is providing aimed at
ergonomics in the classroom.
