SKANDIUM HOSTS THE UK LAUNCH OF NARA BY SHIN AZUMI FEBRUARY 2011
Skandium is looking forward to hosting the UK launch of NARA, a furniture collection by multi award-winning Japanese designer Shin Azumi for Frederica, Denmark.
Frederica celebrates its Centenary in 2011 and to mark this special anniversary Frederica has chosen Shin Azumi to design a collection of furniture. The range reflects Danish crafts traditions while at the same time adding the flair of Japanese elegance. The collaboration with Frederica, who has a long tradition of working with accomplished designers, has resulted in a collection, which encompasses the ethos of both Japanese and Danish design, remaining sleek, simple and timeless.
The Nara furniture range was born out of a desire to create comfortable furniture from a simple wooden structure. The range is named after Japan's ancient capital Nara and seeks much of its inspiration from its free-roaming, sacred deer for which it is famous.
Nara comprises dining chairs with and without upholstered seats, a dining table and a coat stand.

Concept For Living to become Northern Homes
Inside, the new look Northern Homes magazine will retain the current editorial look and stance. Readers will still be able to flick to their favourite features, and there will be some new themed issues to look forward to too.
Concept For Living will transform into Northern Homes from its February 2011 issue, which will hit the newsstands on January 19th 2011. And in May the magazine will celebrate its 150th issue.
Managing director Stuart Mears said: “[Concept For Living] has always been a magazine for and aimed at the North. Changing our name to Northern Homes means that magazine buyers will instantly understand the product. Since the magazine’s launch in 1998, the interiors marketplace has changed drastically and we feel a relaunch and name change will help to reinvigorate our readers’ enthusiasm for interior design.”
Following the relaunch Northern Homes will benefit from increased distribution and an improved presence throughout retail outlets. As an advertiser, this means more than 105,000 potential customers will be available to receive your advertising message.
Dedicated key account managers will be on hand to devise a bespoke marketing strategy tailored to your business, and the new location specific issues will maximise readership potential throughout the North.
Rebecca Drake magazine editor since November 2007 said: “Exciting times are ahead. We are all eager to launch our new look title, which will be a huge benefit for our wonderful readers and also our valued advertisers. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the launch party!”

Committed to Sustainability: Thonet Receive Green Globe Certificate
Thonet is the first company in the furniture industry to have been recognized as managing its business in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way in accordance with the Green Globe certificate standards. Green Globe, an organisation specialising in sustainability services, have recognised Thonet’s commitment to their ideals with the Green Globe label.
Since 1993, The Los Angeles-based Green Globe organisation has provided sustainability services and certification at the highest level in cooperation with international partner firms. All certifications are verified independently by accredited third-party auditors in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021. Green Globe follows a holistic sustainability approach. The organisation not only evaluates a company according to environmental criteria but also regarding ethical standards and social responsibility.
Green Globe’s mission is to promote holistic and sustainable management on the basis of far-reaching approaches regarding business management, the environment, social responsibility both locally and internationally, adherence to legislation and regulations and consideration of cultural heritage. Companies have to meet clearly defined requirements in order to receive a Green Globe certificate. For these criteria to remain dynamic and reflect any changes on an international level, they are reassessed and adapted on an annual basis.
These dynamic criteria, based on a solid framework, the clear and internationally-oriented communication and the innovative, holistic approach of the Green Globe certification program were the decisive aspects that led Thonet to commit to this program. For Thonet and its quality management, only a holistic sustainability approach would set out a meaningful and safe path into the future. A path that meets Thonet’s company philosophy and once again sends out a strong, market-leading signal.

David Fox Design is pleased to announce Adrenalin Fabric
Adrenalin takes its cue from “liquid fluidity” forming a convergence of graceful, fluid lines and an adrenalin rush which breathes life into the soul of the fabric. The swirling, seductive laces of deep dyed colour provide a perfect tone on tone complement to the beautiful sheen of the fine worsted ground shade.
“In these more muted colourways I see Adrenalin being applicable to hotel environments and working perfectly with natural wood finishes on hospitality orientated furniture,” says David. “In combination with other Camira ranges they will add an air of channeled energy to more corporate interiors”

David Fox Design is pleased to announce Nuna Fabric
David Fox Design is pleased to announce its lastest venture into fabric design, at this years Orgatec Nuna was launched in collaboration with Camira Fabrics.
Inspiration for the angular design of Nuna is taken from “Nunataks”, stunning mountain peaks whose jagged ridges protrude from dramatic ice fields below.
The repetitive echo of stepped inclines becomes more subtle in shade as they silhouette into the distance, enhanced by the combination of three refined weaves.“The pattern of Nuna has the ability to make simple uncluttered shapes become more texturised. It has a very retro feel and tactile quality, particularly in the greens which remind me of the different shades and textures you see in different kinds of moss”
