Help Herman Miller Make A Difference

Our efforts to work for a better world around you are rooted in the places we call home. Japan is one of them and has been for decades. What happens there affects us, which prompted us, and our employees, to make donations to the relief efforts.

Now there's another way: until April 16, 5% of our online sales will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which is in daily contact with its counterparts in Japan. This is one small thing we can do together.

We encourage you to be creative, as we pledge to be, in finding other ways to make a difference. Thank you.

魂Horn, the new HI-MACS® art piece for iPod

魂Horn is the new HI-MACS® hand-made art piece, designed by the renowned Korean architect Shi-hyung Jeon - from Jeon Associates - in collaboration with the HI-MACS® team at LG Hausys.
The design concept delivers a full spectrum of sounds while aesthetically it reinterprets the line of the sleeve of the traditional “Han-bok” and “Beo-seon” Korean clothes in a contemporary style.
After several technical tests with different materials, HI-MACS® was demonstrated to be the optimum choice for the speaker cabinet. This was due to its non-porous features and to the minimal vibrations that the material generates in contact with the speakers. Therefore HI-MACS® helps to drive the vibration of the speaker enclosure and it allows minimal diffraction of sound, with a curved design that generates the purest result from the music. The thermoforming properties of HI-MACS® were essential to create the extraordinary, smooth curved shape of 魂Horn.

魂Horn is made especially for IPod devices, and delivers the full spectrum of sounds. The acoustic material and sweeping curves serve up a stunningly clear, precise listening experience that today’s audiophiles are looking for.
HI-MACS® gets the most out of your music!

"Design + Culture - A Return to Fundamentalism?" is the new in-depth trend report from David Report.

Design has become the embodiment of a larger process of creative ‘culture-mongering’
that has become a means to capture ideation, innovation and enterprise and made to
stand for cultural identity. Whilst the application of design is multiplying exponentially, it is
loosing its vailidity as a cultural icon. We need to reclaim a more long lasting cultural
integrity and return to a type of cultural fundamentalism.
–A return to cultural fundamentalism is essential if we are to reengage our tribal past and
work toward a a collective local global future. The measure of a civilisation is the strength
of its culture. The desire to reclaim a more long lasting cultural integrity is to create
memorable experiences, and emotionally rewarding objects, says Brent Richards, cowriter
of the new report.
–The new report is no two in a trilogy which started with ‘Time to Rethink Design’. This
time we are looking deeper into the relation between design and culture, which is not
always as healthy as one would like, says David Carlson, founder of David Report and cowriter
of the new report.
