A book for kids and lovers about DESIGN stories

D.E.S.I.G.N. is a fascinating review of 69 of the most innovative household items from the past 150 years - from the classic to the most crazy.
One of the things we do really love about D.E.S.I.G.N. is that the illustrations are appealing to children, but the author hasn't dumbed down the information. There are 69 of the most innovative household items from the past 150 years in D.E.S.I.G.N. and we had no idea that most of them even existed. The illustrations are quirky, every page is full of bold colours, and there are diagrams showing you how each object works or is supposed to be used. There is a handy key at the beginning of the book showing you what each of the symbols mean throughout the book. These symbols on each page tell you what the object is made of, what it can be used for and which country the designer/inventor is from. There's also an index in the back to help you find your favourite objects. D.E.S.I.G.N. is a book that you can come back to again and again, and discover something new each time. It's the perfect book for those inquisitive children, especially boys, who want to know how things work, and adults will love it just as much as children. One of our favourite nonfiction books for children of 2011.

Juno from arper receives iF Product Design Award 2013

Juno, a system of chairs designed by James Irvine for Arper and presented at Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan, received the 2013 iF Design Award 2013 for the “Product Design” category.

For over 60 years the German iF Design Award – considered all over the world as a quality design label – has promoted the best international design in three main fields: product, communication and packaging. This year's jury, consisting of international experts and designers belonging to different fields, has selected the best design projects, out of the over three thousand projects submitted, on the basis of their background, ability to interpret future trends and several year’s experience.

The Junocollection met the criteria established by iF to define “good design”: a daring, intelligent, passionate yet reliable and ironic design, capable of embodying human qualities.

Juno, together with the other awarded products, will be displayed in the iF exhibitions held at the Hannover Exhibition Centre and Hamburg HafenCity, as well as in the iF onlineexhibition. The award ceremony will be held in the BMW Welt in Munich on February 22nd 2013.

For further information on the award please visit the www.ifdesign.de.

Southbank Centre Commission Mini Moderns to Create New Concert Collection

Cult British design brand Mini Moderns has created Concert, a new collection for SouthbankCentre. Featuring line drawings of musical instruments, the design was conceived to represent the immense variety of musical performance that is staged at Southbank Centre.
Mini Moderns founders, Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire are big fans of Southbank Centre – both as a performance space and as an architectural icon. “We’ve seen such a range of music, art and performance there that we felt it important to represent this variety in the design”.
