Blacksheep Design

Blacksheep, the leading hospitality design agency based in London, has developed the concept for Gillray’s
Steakhouse & Bar the soon-to-launch restaurant at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. Launching in Spring 2012, the design of Gillray’s pays homage to the restaurant’s namesake, James Gillray, a famed English
caricaturist and political satirist of the late 18th century, and its most English of locations – the Grade II listed
County Hall, built 100 years ago to house London’s government. These themes have allowed Blacksheep to
develop a design concept firmly rooted in the values of provenance; a philosophy the agency upholds in every
project they work on. Diners can expect a sophisticated yet unpretentious environment, which celebrates the
best of English hospitality.

New in the Lollipop Shoppe, Adnet Mirror by Gubi

Designed in the 1950's by Jacques Adnet, this classic has been reintroduced by Danish design house Gubi.

In 1950 French Modernist Jacques Adnet formed a partnership with French fashion house Hermes where he developed a collection of leather-covered furniture and interior accessories. Accordingly, he made a round leather mirror with brass hinges. Besides the remarkable leather and brass details, the mirror is also unique as the strap that holds the mirror is in direct proportion to the dimension of the mirror.

The Adnet mirror is simple and elegant, with its detail of leather straps and buckles, it gives an equestrian feel.

HI-MACS® Deluxe Kitchen

The kitchen is part of the "maru" design range. A furniture range that reflects the Japanese meaning of the word; that is "circle" or "completeness". Based on the geometry of the circle, this kitchen is flowing, functional and seamless in appearance. The origins of "maru" can be found in the design of the new study centre of TU Braunschweig, conceived by the architectural firm DODK from Berlin. The aim: to combine intriguing interior reception spaces with innovative team workplaces. Representation and efficient workstations, which are modular and expandable, are completely in line with the concept of "maru". This concept of unusual design features has now been carried over to the kitchen area too. The modular furniture system has been adapted to the new working height, and expanded to include all functions in the substructure. The result: a unique kitchen shape, perfectly designed.

CAGE- New from NEO Studio

CAGE is an outstanding multifunctional fixture developed to stimulate the contemporary and creative use of light.
The hidden symbolism of CAGE, being designed in a sort of a birdcage, is philosophic and curious at the same time, meaning exactly the opposite of it’s name, it means “freedom to use light however you want”.
CAGE also means rough and tough on the way it was designed and manufactured, CAGE means “daily life”, it looks somehow cold and industrial, but with its generous dimension CAGE fills the room and satiates de-atmosphere with a soft direct light.
Full of potentialities, because you can’t actually cage light, the use of this fixture can be tremendous, for instance, just think about using it over the table, on the floor, laying, standing, hanging, light up, light down however you feel like using light.

MARK Joins forces with Kvadrat at Coexistence

288 Upper Street, Islington, N1 2TF
16 March to 3 April 2012

British design brand MARK are taking over Coexistence’s showroom from March 16 – April 2, with an exhibition and series of events called INPUT which will also see the launch of the new Verso chair by Tomoko Azumi.

The exhibition, in collaboration with Danish textiles company Kvadrat, will be a fascinating insight into how a new piece of furniture is designed and made, through four exhibits based on MARK’s products.  Tomoko Azumi’s new Verso chair is shown through every step of the design process from the original briefing of the designer, through sketches and tiny scale models to the first production models, showing all the thinking that goes into every detail.  Gala Wright’s Arris and Bosco ranges are used to demonstrate through films and photographs the skills of the makers that make fine wooden furniture.  There will also be a tower of materials, showing the many natural and man-made materials that go into a modern sofa, where these come from, how they are processed, and how sustainable they are.  Finally, Dylan Freeth’s Iso table shows us the collaborative nature of design – the web of conversations and connections that is woven through the development of each new product.

From 19-23 March there will be a number of talks by MARK designers, collaborators and friends including Tomoko Azumi, Max Fraser, Will Knight, Kvadrat and MARK’s founders Anna Hart and John  Miller.  The full programme and details on how to book are on the exhibitions and events page of the MARK website, markproduct.com
